I am told by the feed store where I bought these chicks yesterday that they are mixed breed and not sexed. They were born at the Children's Museum approximately 1 to 2 weeks ago, which is what I was guessing from looking at them after looking at a bunch of posts on this website. One of the helpers at the feed store said they were Australorps and Ameraucanas, but I guess that's not relevant anymore since the owner says they are mixed breed. From looking at them can anybody tell what gender they are? My favorite one has upright tail feathers, which makes me nervous, since I cannot keep roosters in my small suburban yard. Any help would be much appreciated!

This is another pic of chick #1. The upright tail feathers make me think that it might be a rooster, but the owner says that it's too soon to tell... He says that he will take back any roosters that I end up with, so that's not a problem. But this particular chick was the first one that I liked, very calm, very sweet... Really hope that it's a pullet

It's too soon to tell, especially with mixed breeds. I ive had both boys and girls hold the tail up. That doesn't mean anything about gender. Give it another couple weeks and then post another pic. It will be easier to tell then. Good luck! Hope it's a girl.
