Hello, I am new to this forum and new to incubating, I usually just buy my chicks from Rural king, but this year decided to go full bloar and incubate. So now my question is, I currently have chicks that are due either tomorrow or monday,*SILKIES* and I have hear that they tend to hatch early is that true? I don't want to miss them, it is SO HARD not to open the bator and candle them. I have to just tap on the glass to let them know that I am waiting for them.

Also I am using the egg carton method, I have the little end down, but when they pip do they pip from the cell end or the bottom? ** Told ya'll I am a beginner. I have never hatched my own chicks before.
I am excited for them to start hatching. Anybody every used the egg carton method for hatching?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much !

Yeah, I've never incubated eggs but I've heard that bantams do hatch earlier then standards.
If you have anymore questions about this sort of stuff, you can post it in Hatching and Incubating.
Your question will be answered quickly.

from Ohio. So glad you joined. You will find many folks do and don't use the egg carton method. I prefer to lay them on their side, more natural that way. They should hatch from the large end where the air cell is. Good luck on your hatching.

It is very hard for me not to open the bator to candle it. I just figure that I would try the egg carton with my first batch and the second I will try the natural way, and see what works better I will have 4 more sets of eggs to hatch soon.
Hoping for "easter bunny" to hatch tonight !

from Arizona! So glad you joined! It's tempting, but dont open the 'bator after lockdown... I've tried both cartons and natural, so far I'm leaning towards cartons as my hatches have been better so we'll see.....Good luck!!
