Hey guys! I'm Eri, and I live up in the San Juans. No chickens, but I just picked up a dozen Tibetan coturnix quail from Craigslist a few days ago. The neighborhood ordinances don't allow chickens/ducks, but quail aren't mentioned, and none of the neighbors mind so far. Cute little buggers, and while they're still pretty skittish they seem to be settling in.

Grew up helping my grandparents with their mix of ducks/chickens/geese and other assorted second hand animals. This is the first time I've had birds of my own though, it's been exciting. When I found out they were laying already I was beside myself! Since moving to their pallet home outside they have been on strike, but I figure its just a matter of time This seems like a great place to meet some fellow feather heads and get some good information, hope I can help contribute :)

Hi, Eri, welcome to BYC.

Hi Eri, welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the quail, I've never had any but they look like they would be a lot of fun to raise. I read the other day that some places that don't allow "livestock or farm" animals don't consider quail in that same category, guess you're an example of that. It would be fun to see a picture of your birds if you'd care to share them.

There is a forum here about quail and info in the Learning Center if you haven't already seen them:

Good luck to you with your quail!

Thank you guys! I've been lurking around a bit and it's been a great source of info just skimming around. I'll try to get some pictures up, they've been pretty uncooperative so far, can't sit still for more than two seconds

Nice to meet you Eri, glad you joined the Backyard chickens flock.
