Toadstool
In the Brooder
Hello!
I'm based in the UK and I'm picking up my first ever birds (Quail) on the 8th of May and I'm very excited. I have room for about 18 but I'm going with a 5:1 ratio as pets with an egg shaped bonus (hopefully). I like the idea of adding to the group later in the year via hatching my own but I want to make sure I fully understand the basics before I embark on that adventure.
I have a 4 year old boy who is looking forward to helping me not only with care but learning how to compost to use in our veg garden. My husband is a well trained chef who thanks to Covid is now retraining as a butcher so he is equally as interested in the birds... I'm not sure if that is genuine interest or it's his stomach calling
I'm a stay at home Mum, I previously worked in hospitality but I hold a HND in Photography (the dark room kind) and have multiple qualifications in various arts and crafts and I like to continue this in my spare time.
I'm also a keen gardener and and nature lover and have a number of veg beds and an ornamental fish pond and a small nature pond which is currently full of round little tadpoles. I also like to forage locally.
In the past I've had pet Rabbits, Snails, Frogs, Fancy Rats and I currently have 2 house cats who will not be a threat to my new birds.
I found the forum whilst searching for a friendly and active community to help me learn and understand my future feathered friends
