Hi all

I am brand new to this adventure and have some concerns with my order for birds. 5 of us got together (I am the only chicken virgin) and ordered a mix of chickens and turkeys, 110 birds in all from Poultry Supply. I asked for a delivery date of May 27th, the Friday before Memorial day weekend. I figure that will give me the long weekend to take care of my share of the order, 25 meaties. I get a confirmation they are shipping May 9th, WOW, I won't be here so I email them, wait several days for a response and now a week later they tell me they are shipping them on May 27th. With Monday the 30th being a holiday they will be in the shipping process until Tuesday, 5 days later. So I am a bit concerned that is far too long.

Am I right to be concerned? is 5 days too long?

Thanks
Eric

There is no way I would accept a shipment of chicks on any Friday let alone a holiday weekend. I only want my birds shipped Mon- Wed. Good luck.

I called and someone called me back Friday. They said there is no way they would ship on a Friday and couldn't understand why they told me that. They were going to get back to me again on Friday but I did have to leave early so maybe today I'll here from them.

Sounds like they are going to fix it, just got my attention at first

Well it took since the March 3rd to get this fixed but all is good now. Thanks to Melissa at Purely Poultry we are on track to ship on May 25th and not May 27th, the Friday of Memorial day weekend.. I have purchased houses quicker than I bought these chickens and turkeys but all is good now. I guess I better get the coop built.

Build yourself a tractor from chicken wire and some 1x 4 lumber with a tin roof. Make it light so you can move it easy. It does not need to be
to fancy as you meaties will only be in it several weeks at a time. Hope you made arrangements to buy food in bulk with your freinds, it will save you in the long run. Good luck.

Three of the five us got the bulk of the birds and we are getting feed from a place that sells bulk. 100 pound bags I think, that's not my part of the deal so I'm trusting my buddy to be ready. The other 2 folks only got a few birds each so I think they'll just get bags at TSC or another feed store.

My wife has a greenhouse she doesn't use so I'm going to build a wire coop inside that. it's 12 x 20 so I'm going to use a little over half of it for a wire coop and have room for food storage, etc. It has built in auto venting and lighting so it should be good. I'll post pics when I get it done. Right now there is 3 feet of snow in front of the door so I can't start yet.

If I were to build a tractor as you describe how big would be proper for 25 meat birds? roughly speaking.
