There is a big difference in the size of my egg embryos. All are about the same, but one looks like it has just started to develop, here candled the 9th day. I asume it was the freshest. First pic is the slow poke the others look like the second picture. Is this going to be a problem at hatch?

The second pic looks excellent, the first pic it's hard to tell. I would make sure you know which one it is and check it again in about 3 days. Make sure it shows signs of further development. I don't believe it would be a problem at hatch as maybe it would just hatch a day late. 24 hours is normal, but many suggest waiting at least 72 hours before checking the slow ones.

The older eggs develop slower. The freshest ones develop quickest.

I've only hatched once so far, but some I thought might have died as embryos (slower growth, no obvious movement) are now 6 week old chicks, and some that looked great in candling failed to pip.

Oh I didn't know the oldest develop slower, good to know. The oldest was nine days, because I am down to two hens, thanks to a pair of hungry hawks. I put nine eggs in the incubator and one was a quitter. It's my first rodeo, but this is fun and definitely not my last! I will candle them before they go into lockdown, which is next Monday.
