Newbie Question re: protecting hatched ducklng

Thanks for the tip about the plastic hex garden fencing at Lowes! It worked perfectly. Photo of mother and duckling attached. The baby is either a Runner x Khaki or a Runner x Grey Call.

any more hatching?

Not yet if at all. I slipped the Khaki Campbell's egg under the Call after the Call hen began to sit tight on eggs. The Runners were breeding the Calls so the possibility exist there might be more fertile eggs. At this point the stress of the breeding frenzy on all my hens was too much. Boys are separated from girls now for a while until everyone is up to snuff.

I'll keep you posted if there are more babies!

That is great, your the kind of responsible owner we like to see, Those poor females can really take a beating from the boys. I can't imagine what wild water fowl females have to go through each spring. Those that live to tell it.

I love that plastic fencing it is so easy to use and take down once finished. So much better than the metal stuff for temp.
