I was just wondering when I should start feeding my 12 wk old pullets egg layer food, and what is better mash, pellets or crumbles? I get allot of different suggestions from people but I just have a 2 buff orpingtons and 2 easter eggers for eggs and a fun hobby for me and my kids, so I want to do whats best for them and get the best quality eggs and happy girls!!

At around 18 wks. or when they lay their first egg is about the time you should start feeding them this. In my opinion it would be best to get either crumbles or pellets, I use crumbles and I have success. Good luck with your chickens!

I wouldn't begin feeding layer until you get your first egg. Offer crushed oyster shell or cleaned, crushed egg shells on the side in addition to the layer feed. As far as the form goes, do whatever is easiest and cleanest for you to feed. I feed crumbles simply because I prefer them, but I've had to feed pellets when my store was out of crumbles and my chickens did fine on those too. Some chickens really don't like it when you change from one form to the other, so keep that in mind too.

Its all what you want, I prefer pellets as the pellets I have, have omega 3 oils, vitimains, cut up grass (in the actual pellet) and its really affordable! Crumbles can make mess though but are just as good!
