Newbie question....

First timers here...We are on the way home with our hens and roo. They are five weeks old. We have had some people tell us to lock them in the coop for a couple of days and we have had some tell us to put them in their run and help them find the coop this evening...What do you suggest?

I like to have them spend at least one day and night in the coop before letting them discover the run.

I locked my first group in a couple days, and never had to help them to bed. The second group (went in grow-out pen for quarantine) I felt bad locking up. The weather was just too beautiful to be “cooped” up. I had to help them in at night for about a week. No big deal. So I’d say if they are going to be in an enclosed run where you can catch them easily, it’s entirely up to you.
Ps- haven’t personally tried it, but a lot of people say a night light or flashlight inside at dusk will make them want to go in on their own.
