Hi Everyone
Well after lurking on this Fab site for a couple of months and soaking up as much info as possible we brought our 3 ladies home last saturday.
Both of us have always wanted to have some hens to look after but we we have always been waiting for that big win on the Lottery to buy
loads of acres of land . After reading and researching we suddenley realised that maybe a little of our dream could be possible where we now live.
OH has worked Extremely hard the last 3 or 4 weeks to build a hen house and run in our garden and he has done a fab job. Thanks again for all the advice here.
So we went last saturday to pick up our 3 ladies . We have 3 POL 17 week old hybrid hens .. speckledy , Black Star and a sussex.
We brought them home last saturday put them into their coop and they stayed in there (door was open in the day but obv closed at dusk ) for around 30 hrs .. we looked after them but left them alone lol.
Black star came out first on the sunday afternoon ,speckledy followed and then the sussex.
They have their coop/home in a 10ft by 10Ft covered paved run that leads into another 6x4ft covered run and then they will free range when we are home and as hubby is retired( Early retirement he has made me add
) that will be most of the time unless he is walking our two dogs which he does for 2 hrs each day come rain or shine. ..
3 ladies after only 4 days are now getting soo brave and the speckledy pecked my toe tonight lol
Ladies are also showing pete faults in his design and he is quickly moddifying his run
They don't have names
any ideas
The place we bought them from was top notch and very clean and we were told that once they knew where their home was they would go off to their bed each night, and they have as soon as it went dusk and it is so lovely to watch.
I swept up a load of the leaves in our garden tonight ..( they were very brown and crinkley) turned my back for a few mins and the ladies it seems enjoyed scratching and scattering them around again
Anyway soz for the long post and this should have been just to say HI
Looking forward to a nice fresh egg in hopefully a couple of months time ..
