Hi my name is ivette and i have myself a family of chickens. I love my silkies Marla and Chonchis whove i have had for two years. Ive had my bantie Sofia for about six years. This year i got some chicks to add to my family and some became roosters which brought about fertilized eggs!! Yay! Sofia and Marla have been broody and great moms! My first egg hatched today and i had to take it inside because Marla was crushing him. I dont know what to do now and how long should i wait for the other chicks to hatch? My first time hatching!

Welcome to BYC Ivette.

Congratulations on the new arrival.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You might want to post in the Raising Baby Chicks forum and Broody Hen thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/11/raising-baby-chicks and https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...en-hatch-a-long-and-informational-thread/0_20 Generally the chicks that are going to will hatch within about two days (if the eggs were all set on the same day)... the broody will usually leave the nest around then. If you are going to leave the broody raise the chicks, you might try slipping it back under her at night, she should be OK to take him back in the next day or so, especially if she has other chicks... otherwise you will have to set up a brooder etc for him and raise him yourself. Good luck with the chicks!

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock, so glad you joined us.

Kelsie gave you some great threads to go check out.

Congrats on the new baby. I would watch for the others if mama already stepped on one. Hope you get a few!

If you are going to keep them indoors..they will need a brooder to stay in, I use a plastic tub, also heat, and baby chick food. Water! With rocks or marbles in the bottom part to keep them from accidentally drowning.

Hi thank you everyone! Well my first chick that hatched passed a few hrs after. Im not sure what happened . I fixed a brooder for him, heat and everything. He seemed fine peeping alot and trying to stand than after awhile he just layed there and stopped breathing. I cried after i buried it and now am terrified i might lose the other chicks. One just hatched this morning ... Seems very tired

Ok update... Went from tired to crazy! Is running all over the box trying to get out! High energy little chick!
