newbie to BYC and chickens

Hi, I'm from NW Florida and got my first chickens last summer. Sadly they were killed by, we guess a racoon. I was wondering the trick to getting a friendly rooster. We never wanted a rooster when we decided to get chickens but they were free and it was a take all or none deal. It turned out wonderfully. He was the best rooster I have ever heard of. We never even had to watch him with our 3 yr old. He would even find food and not eat it for himself he would call his girls over to eat the bug or whatever tasty treat he found. I have no idea what this man did with him but he was amazing. How do I train my next to be so sweet? By the way this site is great. Thanks for all the good info.

We had the same problem, wanting a nice rooster. DH wanted cochins, I wanted a rooster. We got a cochin rooster and he is great!

. So glad you got a sweet, friendly, rooster. Can't help you with "rooster training" as we can't have a rooster in our area. Would love to have one as a protector for our hens. We've gone out of the way to make our hens safe so I can sleep at night. Good luck with your flock!
