Newbie to BYC and newish to chickens!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I am one of those who doesn't like sand in the coop. It swells in the chickens crop if eaten, it doesn't trap heat and cold well and is heavy to move and clean.

Thanks all!

I have been putting straw a few inches deep over most of the area of the enclosure and abit thicker in the coop. But going through ALOT of straw! Is this normal to be covering the whole ground or do you leave as mud?

Have just bought a couple of fake eggs to pop in the nesting box thing that they were using before just laying the odd one a day in there coop - 6 hens to 1 egg a day

I don't think they are open to predators, there area is mostly covered with a meshing I bought to stop them flying out before finding out I was best to clip wings and with the dogs stalking the garden we don't get foxes ect

Hello everyone sorry for the last message. I am new to BYC and new to chickens this year. I have a chicken who seems sick not herself. She usually is up and about but barely eats and has her tail down here are some pictures.

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me on what to do. I have never de wormed them I'm thinking I might. But just want other suggestions. Thanks ahead of time

To Mike10,
Your chook could have lice. If you go to pick her up and little brown bugs come off onto you, it's what she'll have. Our hen had the same symptoms.
Hope this helps!
Radioactive Egg over and out.

Hey thank you for your response I powdered them a little over a week ago because I noticed mites on one of them so did them all. I used poultry powder but I think I should do it again.
