Newbie to BYC

Good evening,

I am new to BYC. I live in Jersey, the Channel Islands (of the coast of France). I have always wanted to keep chickens and am making my first step towards having some. My son (12) promised me that he would help me make a coop over the summer holidays, but alas they are coming to an end and nothing has been started!!

I have 3 soppy cats, who won't even chase the seagull out of the garden. I have read that cats are okay around hens. I do feed some wild ones down the road and there is a cat around there, he seem to be terrified of the hens and they in turn seem to terrorize him!!

Anyway, I shall be reading up on all the information on your site and hopefully will have some photo's to post soon.

Seagulls are tough, aggressive birds, I would be afraid of them myself. Usually cats are NOT afraid of small chicks - not a good thing.!! It's wise to keep cats away until chicks are full grown and can dish out some protective pecks to the face. Welcome to Backyard chickens, glad you joined the flock.
