Hatching
We purchased chickens 2-1/2 years ago and I have been thrilled to have them. They are a mix of Cinnamon Queens, Australorp, Americauna and Buff Orpington. Egg production drastically slowed down to 7 eggs/day in the fall and currently I'm lucky if I get one or two. My husband thinks it's because the girls are getting too old, but I have a neighbor who's chickens are 5 years and still producing.
We plan on getting chicks in the spring, but I really believe the current flock should start laying again assuming (with all the feathers all over the place) they are molting. They have a light that automatically comes on at dusk and shuts off at sun up. They are eating a 16% ration and supplemented w/ milo. I also let them free range about 4-5/day.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
