A friend is selling their farm property and moving into a brisbane apartment. So we will be the proud custodians of 24 chooks, 5 of which are roosters and 5 chicks. Talk about a steep learning curve! We have 11 days till they arrive. Have part organised a shaded run for them which has good cover from mature shrubs and trees for the hot summer sun here in Australia. About 25 meters long by10 metres wide. It won't be predator proof but will hopefully keep them away from our veggies and flowers. But we have a secure besser block shed inside the run where we will secure them at night away from the foxes and wild dogs which we do have here unfortunately. Don't know the breeds yet but there are five family groups which go their own ways when they free range at their current home but get along well in their shared coop at night. We won't be free ranging them at first so I can already imagine problems with them all in the same run. I don't have the time or inclination to fence off the veggies and flowers at the moment so this could get interesting! Have to help out our friend and we were planning on chooks some time in the future so now is as good a time as any. We will work out how to sort out the situation I am sure.
