Newbie to Emu Hatching

hello everyone, im rgvchicks from South Texas just by the Mexican Border. I'm new to emu hatching, just got my first emu egg today and it seem to be in good condtion. I didn't even know that this forum existed yinepu just told me about it so here I am just to say Hi to everyone.....

.......been hatching chickens since january and i've had pretty good hatching rates but as I've seen emu is a whole different ballgame........hopefully everything goes well.

Just bought me another 2 eggs......"Alpha" is in the bator "Beta" and "Omega" were just won on ebay......so exicited!!!....

just received my other 2 eggs "Beta" and "Omega"........Beta weighs 535 grams ........Omega weighs 585 grams............will set tomorrow morning.

Hi, I have a question.....but I as you are also a first time emu owner. My boyfriend and I received an emu egg for our anniversary. I'm a city girl and never owned such an exotic bird. Everthing was fine until the the female egg started getting little air bubble thingys. I'm freaking out... because I dnt knw if this is normal. His frien said that his also started getting the bumps but he says that his egg smells. Please help....is it something I'm doing wrg. If u notice the same thing please keep updating lol thanks

what do you mean by "air bubble thingys".. if you mean that the egg is oozing and it is starting to stink .. that means it's rotten

you can throw it out or blow out the contents and save the shell

ok it's 10 days today for egg "Alpha" and 5 days for eggs "Beta" and "Omega"

Alpha = 555 grams when set, right now is 543.5 grams = 1.15 g loss per day

Beta = 535 grams when set, right now is 528.5 grams = 1.3 g loss per day

Omega = 585 grams when set, right now is 575.1 grams = 1.98 g loss per day

so this is the status right now , does it look well?

at 10 days? I assuming you're incubating at 97.5 degrees?.. if so it would be a 50 day incubation.. if not then the daily numbers would change based on expected days of incubation

Alpha
555g at set needs to lose 15% which would be 83.25 grams over the incubation period of 50 days.. that would be 1.665 grams per day or 11.655 grams per week

Beta
535g at set needs to lose 15% which would be 80.25 grams over the incubation period of 50 days.. that would be 1.605 grams per day or 11.235 grams per week

Omega
585g at set needs to lose 15% which would be 87.75 grams over the incubation period of 50 days.. that would be 1.755 grams per day or 12.285 grams per week

so looking at the daily loss.. assuming you are incubating at 97.5 .. Alpha and Beta are running a little low (Alpha being the closest to the danger zone).. Omega is running a bit high
you want to avoid losses of as low as 10% or as high as 20% overall since those are considered to be the "danger zones"
Alpha and Omega are at the highest risk overall.. can you rotate their positions around in the bator? .. I'm not sure what kind of incubator you are using.. so it's very possible that the eggs (Alpha and Omega) are either too close to the fan or too far away.. rotating their positions one time for one week.. then rotating the eggs around every day may solve the problem
