Newbie to the BYC world looking for some tips

So for this season, I should probably get full-sized chickens. Being new to the whole chicken raising thing, it may be a good idea. Then maybe next spring venture into the baby raising.

OK, I'm rethinking my design (again

)
Instead of a true A-frame, I think I'll go with more of a tapered H with the base being 6'wide by 8' long tapered to 4x8 for the roof so I can use some of those currugated plastic roofing panels. The run area below will be 6x8x2'tall and I'm thinking the weight shouldn't be bad. I want to keep this portable and want it to be seen as not being a permanent structure since my homeowners association rules would require a building committee to approve any designs, building permit, etc. We have a 1.5 acre lot with a chunk of woods between us and the neighbors on both sides (cattle farm and woods to the back 2 sides) so they probably won't ever see it but I still don't want to have that issue.
I think this design will give my girls a lot more room to roam indoors. How much headroom above the roost should I allow for? With 4 ft of height in the interior, is there enough room to have roost with boot tray poop boards below and still have room for them to walk around between the poop boards and the floor? And how far should the roost be from the wall?
