I am so grateful for this forum! My husband found this site and I quickly realized you guys are the "real deal" for getting sound information and sharing the fun of raising chickens! We have been talking about getting a few chickens for about 3 years now and this spring we are finally going to do it! We have 3 children who are at the perfect age for enjoying them and sharing in the responsibility of caring for them. I am hoping to get some advice on purchasing chicks. What is the best way to locate a breeder/hatchery that carries chicks that interest me and where I will be able to buy less than 10? We are looking at Silver Laced Wyandottes and Buff Orpingtons. We are willing to drive to pick them up if its not too far. Southern Tier New York/ Northern Tier PA. And how long until people start calling me the Chicken Lady? Thanks for any help you can give!

! Great to have you here! Yes, BYC is the real deal - hope you stay and become part of the community! Below is a link to hatcheries and breeders where the you can look and see if they sell them in the numbers you desire. I know a lot of hatcheries recently have dropped the minimums from 25 to 15 to accommodate folks who want a smaller batch to start. I do know one, MyPetChicken, sells in reduced quantities. Best of luck and have fun!!!

And find your state/search area in the link below - maybe a little local insight can help you out:

And hey, if you are this far into it, you are already The Chicken Lady!!!

, Hinckjcpoultry have some very nice Orpingtons in many varieties. Located in Pa. they are readily accessible to you. Take a look at Hinckjcpoultry.com.
