Newbie w/roosting problem

:welcome

My chickens chose (much to my chagrin) a 4” x 4” rafter. Because it’s so high up (I get pooped on) I made them a ramp out of dead tree. Probably 4” - 5” across at the base and 2” - 2 1/2” at the top. They now roost all along the tree as well. When choosing branches I wrap my hand around the skinniest part. If my thumb and fingers touch it’s a no. Close to touching is ok but I want the branch to be sturdy.

I don't know if ours would like a tree or not, I may have to try that. I know they LOVE their ramp so that they don't have to jump clear to the floor. :)

Hi, and welcome!
I use cedar branches. My husband also designed this cradel system so i can just lift the roosts out and have an open space to easily clean the cement pad we put under the roost area.
I have heard that cedar is a natural bug repelent as far as mites and ticks go.
I love this set up.
Glad you joined us!
Welcome to the backyard!
