Hi friends...
I am a newbie to the site and would like to have chickens in my suburban yard. I live in Shillington, PA and will have to approach the township board to have the "no farm animals" ordinance changed to a welcome sign. Any ideas and advice are much appreciated. Anyone out there in my area that has chickens or wants to join me in my crusade? Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi,
My husband and I also live in Shillington PA and we went through the boroughs ordinances and found nothing about chickens. There is an ordinance that states no pigs or bees, but that is it. I know you posted this sometime ago and I am wondering if something changed?
Thanks!

Hello!

We actually had it all ready to go. Our attorney had looked over the ordinance and saw nothing specifically prohibiting chickens.
Then we chickened out. :/
Since then we sold our house and moved to the country. My wonderful chicken man husband just started building our coop today! I would go for it. They are better behaved than most dogs and people on our old block. Or you could bag Shillington altogether like we did and get out to the peace and quiet of the country! We love it and can't wait to get our girls! Good luck! H.

Hi!
Thank you so much for writing back! We did it! We got 3 Americuana chicks. May I ask why you chickened out? Lol for the pun btw! We do plan to buy a farmette one day after my husband and I finish school. Congrats on country living... I must say I am jealous!

OOOOO! I have them on my wish list! Where did you get them? I would love to connect since we live close! Private message me if you want and we can figure something out. Are you in town? Get a coop yet?
We chickened out I guess because there were too many unknowns, and we knew we wanted to move sooner rather than later, so we decided to wait. Now, all we need to do is finish the coop. We're gathering free supplies, so it's going a little slower than I want, but it will leave more to invest in fencing and security. Thinking I'd like pullets to ensure the sex. Only hens here for now :)
