Hi Brandie!

Make sure you check the links Kelsie posted. I kinda skipped over at first and missed out on a lot of good info. Good luck!

Hello everyone, my name is brandie caldwell. I am a newbie to raising and keeping poultry. We are intrested in all kinds of birds and are striving to learn all I can so we can breed our own rare and heritage breeds.
Hell Brandie,

Welcome to BYC! Raising poultry is an exciting and very fulfilling hobby. If you are looking for a fairly rare and a relatively low maintenance, hardy; might I suggest the Buckeye? Buckeyes are a nice family of fowl. They have the capability of serving as many different things, great utility (dual-purpose birds), excellent pets (they have a docile and friendly yet confident nature about them), and buckeyes can have a strong presence in exhibition. My daughters involvement in 4-H is how the breed got started on our farm. Feel free to check out the links in my signature line for more information. Have a great day.

Hi Brandi and welcome from a fellow newbie :-) My 2 older boys are also joining 4-H this year and wanting to show our chickens. Like you, I am researching and learning a lot with the help of this site. There are so many great breeds, it's hard to choose but I'm sure you will get some excellent advice here from the experienced members :-)

Hi guys! We're new to chickens this year and also starting 4H, what great adventures so far! This site has been great help :)
