(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’m pretty new to the whole chicken thing. I’ve had ducks and geese before but my flock was decimated by a very ambitious fisher cat who has been dealt with. (fish and game re-homed three of them)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 7
(3) What breeds do you have?
Americana and Rhode Island red
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They are absolutely awesome! And the eggs
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I’m an artist and nursing student halfway through my degree
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have the 7 chickens, a Russian tortoise, a black cat and foster goats in the summer. We are getting more chickens and ducks in the spring.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’m looking for help making sure my gals get the best care that I can give them.
One of my girls got what I suspected was frostbite, then bumblefoot. Now three toes are shriveled and black. My vet won’t treat chickens but she did provide antibiotics which seems to have cleared the infection but now those toes look pretty bad. We’ve finished the antibiotics and give her regular epsom salt baths. She’s currently living in our kitchen. Any ideas? Advice? The sweet girl is about 6 months old and I’m really hoping that she will pull through. She doesn’t appear to be feeling unwell but it clearly is painful and she doesn’t want to walk much. I posted two pictures. One showing the initial blisters and the other shows what her black toes look like now. Help!
