Newbie with straight run Barred Rock chicks (6)...

Hoping I can get a census of what some more experienced people think about these chicks. They were bought at a local feed store as straight run. I picked them hoping for pullets. Let's see what you think... Any info/thoughts will help.

Around 10 weeks.

The hens tail feathers are usually rounded at the end, the rosters are sharp and pointy.

I was trying to pick based on the head spot and foot/leg coloring

You can usually see the difference in barring by about 4 to 6 weeks with purebred Barred Rocks.

How is the barring different? I thought the Roos were a bit lighter than the hens?

Males have two copies of the barring gene. Females can only have one copy. This means that males have twice as much white as females. Males have wider bars of white, and more narrow black bars.
