In the Brooder
Hi! My name is Cara and I'm from southern Michigan. I've been stalking BYC for 3 years with anticipation of one day having my own flock. Im so excited to say that we bought our first 6 ladies from our local TSC this spring. 4 production RIR and 2 bantams. Unfortunately, we lost 1 bantam early on. She kept getting pasty butt and she seemed much weaker than the rest. I would bring her in the house and clean her up and snuggle with her in a warm towel. She's be better the next day but go down hill again. We also lost 2 RIR due to a dog busting through my TSC coop. We are down to 2RIR's. (Big Momma and Rosey) and our gold lace winged bantam (Tat).
We reinforced my little TSC coop, but quickly realized that we would be building our own chicken palace. Our girls can't free range here, but we do have room so, we're going to make use of it.
I've spent the last 2 weeks looking through incubation posts and purchased 6 barred rock eggs which arrived today! My bator has been up and going for 3 days, waiting for these babes to get here. Im letting them sit for 24 hrs and then will set them tomorrow.
So excited to begin this journey and finally be able to be a "member". Thanks to all of you who share your love, passion, and opinions on this site. It is truly a blessing to have so much at my fingertips.
