I hope i am posting in the right area. Hello, everyone. I just began my backyard chicken journey. ok, they are chicks so they are not in my yard yet. I am panicking because they will need to go outside soon. there is so much helpful info here that I am hoping there will be no failures in raising these chickens. What I really need is faith the all my sexed chicks are, in fact, female! Wish me luck!!!

Oh, and I started with 6 chicks. 3 buff orpingtons and 3 plymouth rocks. I am learning that there is a trend of backyard eggers near me, the suburbs of western Long Island, and I'm hoping to get local support without being a pain in the neck!!!

Welcome & Congratulations!

I do wish you luck but do not panic, we have your back and will assist whenever and wherever we can.

This is a link to the Breed & Gender Forum Diva mentioned where you will get some assistance determining if you have all pullets: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

I recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
