I'm new to this site but have had chickens for a couple of years. We moved from Ontario to Nova Scotia this summer but I had to leave my hens behind because I worried they wouldn't travel well.

I am looking for more chickens but having a very hard time finding Heritage Breeds in Cape Breton. I really want Marans, I also am looking for Easter Eggers, and / Ameraucanas but miss chickens so much at this point I'd probably take anything.

I found BackYardChickens when I googled chickens in Cape Breton.

Other hobbies will hopefully be getting back into horses and I'd also like to get Nigerian Dwarf goats again.

I know what it's like to move and have to re-home a flock, it's not easy. I hope you can find the birds you want for a new flock.

G’Day from down under Maran Chick Welcome!

I am sorry to hear that you had to rehome your girls and wish you all the best with finding some more feathered friends. I too have recently moved over 1,800kms [1,100 miles] and we used a pet transport company to fly our girls up; they traveled pretty well. We did, however, have the luxury of hubby arriving at our new home a couple of months before the girls and I followed and he had their new coop and run built and ready for them to move into when they arrived.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your new flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
