Hello, BYC members!! I just got my first babies yesterday and I am so excited to raise them!! I've begged my husband for 7 years and he finally gave in! I picked up 4 black sex links, 2 leghorns, and 2 buff orpingtons. Does that seem like a strange combination? That's all that was available and I didn't want to wait for the next shipment; which I may go pick up more! LOL What should I look out for as far as illnesses and such? What is the best plan to prevent Coccidia?

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

:welcome@scottilynn! When you first bring your baby chicks home make sure you dip each one of their beaks in the water so they know where to find it! You'll also want to make sure non of them have "pasty butt" which is where poo is stuck to their bottoms and they could become constipated.:( To prevent coccidia I feed mine Purina start and grow medicated (which included a medication for the disease) of course it may still occur but non of mine have had it, knock on wood, and I've always given it to them:) Hope to hear from you more!!
