I'm certain you're right. No illusions here. We have hawks, coyotes, bear, raccoons, possums and fox in these parts. Oh, and weasels. Can't forget those little buggers. Many near us free range their chickens successfully. We have a plan on when to let them out and when to put them "to bed". No guarantees that they will always be safe, but we'll do our best for them. We've predator proofed the chicken house as well as anyone could, so we're hoping for the best. Thanks for the welcome!Howdyand Welcome to Backyard Chickens.
Even when they have all grown up, you will still have to worry about hawks and other predators getting them, especially if you intend to "free range".
