Newbie

Looking for any helpful hints/tips. Im completely new to raising chickens and ducks. My son(12yrs) has been begging for 3 yrs to get them. Have a house with the land to accommodate them so i agreed. Family of 4, my husband is disabled so i work full time. We have english mastiffs and cats and 1 rabbit. I grew up around my cousins dairy farm but its been awhile! Bought a coop from the store but seems cheap and not big enough. I work with tools so thought i should maybe make my own. Not sure on size but i have 8 chicks and 4 ducks. I want them to have more than enough room! I dont do bare minimum. We are doing this for the fresh eggs.....nothing beats fresh eggs! Again any insite is appreciated!

Go big or go home she laughs you will have the coop you bought it will hold like 3 or 4 comfortable until they are grown then 2 but works for later when you get more than grow up in it ...

My family is planning on stripping down an old rotting 12x7x7 ish camper to the frame and rebuilding it for our 14 chickens.

Did you get to start by introductions ? would like to Welcome you then but also like to let you know it is best to start your own thread as you have a good reason to doing a camper

Welcome to BYC! Thanks someone for sharing my review. Need 4 sq ft per bird in coop and 10 sq ft per bird in run. Think converted shed or build own. Space prevents problems. I have 4 and prefab too small. They can’t use run space without bumping into feeders. Also plan for expansion if you are thinking more in future.
