Newbie :)

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. One lady experienced with bears, starting throwing lighted firecrackers at them. After a few repeats - they take off as soon as they see her open the door.

Electrified fences can repel them but, they don't feel the shock through their heavy coats, they need to touch their nose to the fence to really feel it. Some folks wrap pieces of bacon in aluminum foil and attach to fence. Bears can't resist it. I am told.

Hello :) I’ll take the black bears any day as well!! The Brown and Grizzly are not scared of us and can be a bit intimidating to scare off. But I’ve since installed the strongest electric fence zapper I could purchase....time will tell as we enter their get fat time, if it will work or not.
Wayyyy late! Welcome to BYC! How’s the grizzlies going? I just had my first predator prob and it was four grizzlies! Mom sent her cubs in the chicken house to scare them out, broke a window. Most escaped luckily but I lost two cockerels I couldn’t decide if I was keeping. Since then I have an extra light and a radio (on a talk station about life volume) going in the tree fort at night above the coop. Seems to be working so far.
