Electrified fences can repel them but, they don't feel the shock through their heavy coats, they need to touch their nose to the fence to really feel it. Some folks wrap pieces of bacon in aluminum foil and attach to fence. Bears can't resist it. I am told.

I’ll take the black bears any day as well!! The Brown and Grizzly are not scared of us and can be a bit intimidating to scare off. But I’ve since installed the strongest electric fence zapper I could purchase....time will tell as we enter their get fat time, if it will work or not.
