Hello everyone!
I am a crazy chicken lady and love my girls.
I have been forced into retirement thru a furlough due to covid-19.
I must say after working fifty years it is a pleasure to get up and play with all my animals.
I currently have around 60 chickens. Buffs, Americanas, Black Stars, Bielevelder's, light Brahmas, Rhode Island Reds, Jersey Reds, and Columbian Wyandotte.
All are hens but for two Roos.
One is a Rhode Island Red and the other a Polish (affectionately referred to as Rasta the Polish Prince).
I have been working on a makeover of my hen house. As soon as I can figure out how to add pics I can post my progress.
Ill sit back and take some time getting to familiarize myself to this group.
I have been receiving newsletters for a few years now but just now joined, I think. I'm better with a teat than I am with a tablet!

Unplanned retirement isn't always a bad thing. I left the workforce five years ago -- long before I intended -- because of a farm accident. When I hear people say retirement is boring, they have nothing to do, I can't relate. With my poultry and critters, boredom never happens here.

Good luck on the hen house makeover, and when you post photos, please include Rasta's.

Welcome to BYC!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I've been through plant closures and a couple of layoffs and I've ALWAYS come out better on the other side of them. Everything happens for a reason. CONGRATULATIONS on your retirement! Enjoy the gift they gave you.
