Hi,
I live in rural PA and purchased some mail order chicks last year just before Thanksgiving. Currently have a silver wyandotte rooster, 2 wyandotte hens, 2 leghorn hens, a barred rock, an Australorp, and a black sex link. All the hens except one are molting/taking the winter off. We started collecting and saving the barred rock hen's eggs (the only one not on strike) this week and are waiting for an incubator to arrive in the mail. Figure we can try it out with her eggs before moving on to other projects in spring...
We have 3 faun runner ducks. Wanda is the only female. They are 8 months old. Also have 3 mixed geese (half white Senastopol/ half Pomeranian Saddleback) they are 8 months old and we are unsure of their gender, but have our suspicions. Finally, we have 3 pure Sepastopols from Moonlight Valley Farm. They are 7 month olds. We think that our lavender is a male and the two buffs are a male and female. The plan is to hatch some duck and goose eggs in the spring in the incubator.
This forum has been a great help. Whether I have a question regarding poultry behavior or how to treat a problem with a cut on a goose foot, the answers and options provided are great.
