I am new to raising chickens and trying to do it the healthiest way possible for them and me. I have 2 Road Island Reds and 2 others that were gifts so I don’t know their breed. I want to let them free roam but we have quite a few hawks in the area so I haven’t done that yet.

Welcome to BYC! I would recommend not free ranging your chickens if you have predators about. It will lead to heartbreak. Instead, concentrate on making then a nice big run and putting lots of stuff inside to keep them entertained. Good luck!

What kind of stuff do you suggest?

Wood chips, perches, stumps, old wood chairs you find that people are throwing out, pallets leaning against the wall, any type of "clutter". And LOTS of space. A run with a solid roof is exceedingly convenient.
