Where in general are you located? Every single Amish built coop I have seen is well constructed but terribly designed. You will have to add a lot more ventilation that it offers.

This is a wonderful place for you to learn the in's and out's of raising chickens. BYC members have an endless amount of experience and an overwhelming willingness to help others.

I think your granddaughter's education will be enriched by learning how to successfully raise chickens. If you haven't already chosen the breed or breeds you want to get, researching that aspect of chickens could be a major project for her.
