Greetings from Texas.......
I recently decided to convert and old dog house into a hen house (the dogs have a doggy-door and access to my bed, so naturally they turn their noses up at a dog house!!)
It's a big one 4' high, 7' wide and 4' deep, shingled roof, pretty old but still holding up.
I scavenged around for fencing and a gate, so it was put together with scraps, stuff and junk.
Just got my girls today, went to the farm of a lovely old man who even offered my first glass of fresh goat milk!
Just buying them was a lot of fun.
What stunned me was within 3 or 4 hours, Pearl presented me with a perfect brown egg!!
Pearl, a buff orp, Mildred a RI white, and Dorothy and E Egger seem to like their new home.
I'd had chickens and other critters many many years ago, but for some reason, this is a real treat and I was thrilled to death to see an egg so soon.
Guess because I did it myself, it's my house, my life and I just added chickens to it!
