Hello there,

My name is Gretchen. I bought some chickens in April of 2012, 4 Sliver Laced Wyandottes, 2 Black Sexlinks and 4 Buff Orpingtons. We ended up with one rooster which is a Silver Laced Wyandotte. I am getting excited for these girls to start laying eggs but when will that be on average? I know every chicken is different but I am ready! Also I need some advice on how to make my rooster stop trying to charge me!

Welcome to BYC. Your hens should start laying anywhere from 19-24 weeks. I'd suspect your Black Stars (sex-links) would lay first. Your rooster is instinctively trying to protect HIS hens from you. Unfortunately he might try to flog you at some point. Your options are limited; consider selling or giving him away, or eating him. If you want a rooster, I recommend one that is at least over 1 year old....the older the better.
