Hello :) About 6 months ago we moved into a new home with a lake and our own personal pond in the backyard. My kids and I LOVE seeing all the wildlife from our bedroom windows. We rescued a duck egg from a Nast old coon the other day. He was the only surviver from his nest so we named him Nemo :) I just need help and advice on how to help him hatch and what to do.

Hi! How fun! I am a newbie on this site too. I've never had ducks, but have heard that they hatch well under a broody hen. Do you have neighbors/friends that might help? Good luck! :)

No :( I live pretty much in a city. So everyone is calling me crazy for trying to help him. But I have a big heart and high hopes :)

you may find help in the "Other backyard poultry" section which included ducks, geese, etc. I know ducks have a longer time to hatch than chickens do. You don't know how far along the development is - maybe you can candle the egg. Also if the other eggs were destroyed and I suppose mama as well - the surviving egg may have been too cold, for too long a time.

I've been doing a lot of reading lately- so quick helpful fact- Duck eggs take 28 days to hatch and geese are 30. Not sure about chickens, though. Jessie, have you picked up a copy of storey's guide to ducks? Storey usually has awesome instructions, and you can find a good few pages at least on breeding and eggs and incubating and such.

I will DEF have to pick one of those up!!! Thank u!!! Don't know what I am gonna do if he hatches......but I can sleep at night that I tried :)
