I have had my two chickens for exactly one week. It is eggciting to see how fast their feathers come in and how big they become. I have a polish and a barred rock. They both have funny habits to watch.

I am a high school teacher on the central coast of California. I have my own garden as well and thought a good next step would be to get some chickens.

Welcome to BYC!! I have been a member for a couple of weeks and I really enjoy BYC. I am from Spokane, Wash. and I am a probation/parole officer that just happens to love chickens! I found this site while trying to find out some information about some turkey's I bought. BYC had the answers I was looking for I found a wonderful web site! I have 11 hens, 1 rooster and 3 turkeys. My favorite breed of chicken is the Black Sex Link. We can get some cold, snowy winters in Spokane and I have to have chickens that are cold tolerant. My Black Sex Links are great! The cold does not bother them. They lay an egg a day (sometimes 2 ) and will lay during the winter. I hope you are enjoying your chickens!
