Hello all! I'm a newbie to all things backyard chicken...but falling in love quickly! I'm originally from Alabama, where our family members owned chicken houses I used to help out with each summer. I learned quickly that was not the summer job for me, after finding myself torn between my love of animals and some of the treatment those poor chicks received. That said, I moved off to enjoy city life in Dallas, Texas for a few years...only to settle in Oklahoma craving a more "settled" lifestyle. Now...a ton of reading later, deciding back and forth, and one visit to a friends coop and I'm headed on my own backyard chicken journey. I'm currently incubating my first 7 and find myself excited, nervous, and obsessive over my start into this new world. 
Please be patient...I'm still learning the lingo and how to best care for and maintain my future chicks. I hope to have a great, educational, and a bit messy new change to my life!
