Hi everyone! New to the site and new to chicken farming too! We picked up two amber star hens this morning and have been giddy all day wondering at our backyard mini farm. We found our first egg in the box after the car ride home-- can't wait to see a few more! Looking forward to picking your brains for tips and advice!!
Nice to meet you all!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!!

Congrats on the new flock AND the egg! Always a good day when bringing home new members of the farm! Sometimes the hens can stop laying for a while til they get used to their new home. This egg you got today was already in the pipe. But the stress of moving can shut off the eggs for a while. So don't be alarmed. Be gentle with them for a couple weeks, don't handle them much and move slowly around them. Sometimes it helps to lock them in the coop for the first few days so they learn to be comfortable in the coop and know where to come home to roost at night. It also helps to leave fake eggs in the nest boxes so they know where you want them to lay their eggs.

Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of helpful tips on raising and keeping your new fllock...
