New to backyard chickens. Looking to gain knowledge and networking my new hobby. Raising a few breeds of chickens. Looking to expand slowly. Beginning to enter the world of lavender (self blue). Starting with ameraucana and Orpington.

Welcome to BYC! This is the place to learn all about chickens. Those are good breeds to start with. Orpingtons are hardy, calm and friendly, and good layers of large brown eggs, and Ameraucanas (actually ours are Easter Eggers and not true Ameraucanas) are my granddaughter's favorite chickens. She loves them for their colored eggs, especially the pale pink ones (one advantage over true Ameraucanas, which lay only blue eggs). Good luck with your flock.
