Hello to all. My husband Nick and I (Jan) are new to the world of chickens. We just purchased 12 little 3 day old Polish in assorted colors. We have no children so we substituted with animals. We currently have 14 dogs, 5 cats, 2 fish tanks (35 gallon and 75 gallon) along with a cage of finches and one female african gray that plucks her feathers (poor baby was used as a breeder until she could no longer breed consequently causing her much stress so she now plucks any feathers that appear on her chest and back). We also just bought 10 acres in Michigan close to the Mackinac Bridge. (Close to the UP). We also have a Swedish Hen rooster , two silkies, (1 male and 1 female) Sorry don't know all the terminology yet and forget sometimes to use it but will work on it. Please be patient with me. Also have two other hens but am not sure what breed they are. We are planning on getting a couple of small goats to add to our flock. We do not want horses or cows Just the smaller ones we have. Oh my I almost forgot our 3 week old ducklings they are Muscovy and we are so excited to watch them grow. Well I guess that is about it for now. I look forward to meeting new people and making some great friends.

Hi Jan, welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you have quite the little farm going on, must keep you busy. So nice you could join us, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Welcome to BYC Jan! Glad to have you. It's so fun to watch those babies grow, isn't it? Have fun with your flock!

Welcome to the flock. I don't know anything about parrots but, I wonder if you had a little t-shirt on her, if that would prevent her from plucking her feathers. Maybe she would take her stress out on the shirt instead. BYC has a section on cage birds, maybe some one can make better suggestions.

She will continue to pluck no matter what! But I do thank you for your suggestion I have tried calming things for her, I have tried t-shirts (cut off socks--she loves those more to shred and pluck) lol I have tried everything including keeping track of the humidity because sometimes that will cause it by being to dry. But I do appreciate it. She is just a naked bird with feathers on her head and tail but she is greatly loved. She just adores my husband. He takes her out every night and she sits on his shoulder and falls asleep or tries to put her beak in his ear (which he hates) lol. They are so cute together. She also has arthritis in her legs and feet and has a lot of trouble holding onto things she is an older bird just as we humans get older so do the birds and they are just as set their ways as we tend to be. LOl But she is a sweetie and we love her naked and all.
