Newbie's experience with sand in run

I use pine shavings, never had a smell nor fly problem. PDZ is in the poop board above the "nest box", I do sprinkle DE in the pine shavings about once a month or so. The Chicken House/Enclosure is open & ventilated, I use shower curtains to close them up at night or when we get stormy rain. I do FF , thinking it's got alot to do with no smell & no issue with flies. Have picked up ALOT of great ideas from BYC members THANK YOU ALL!

I did consider sand when we completed the enclosure but a BYC member, knowing our climate/humidity recommended against it. So GLAD I took her advice!
