Hello! Have been reading BYC for a few weeks now since we learned that our offer was accepted on a 3 acre, mid-1800s farmhouse in Bedford County, VA! We are relocating from Philadelphia and are thrilled to live the more rural life we've been craving.

Naturally, we are going to start our farm with a small pack of chickens as there is an existing coop on the property that needs some TLC, but will be awesome. We figure while our chicks are in the brooder we can fix it up (as well as tackle other home renovation projects!)

We placed an order from Meyers for six chicks to be delivered the first week in June- 2 barred rocks, 2 EEs, and 2 RIR (we are originally from RI!), hopefully all hens :)

Thanks for providing such wonderful information on this site! Really looking forward to continued learning and sharing :D

Best wishes on your rennovations. Cant wait to see pics

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Just for timing purposes, your chicks will probably be ready to go out into the chicken coop at around 4-6 weeks - and you will be happy to have them out of your house by then
