We had a 3 bay pole barn on our property so I decided to convert it into a chicken coop. We got 6 Rhode Island Reds at about 2 months old and now 4 months later we have 3 of them laying. It is so great to have fresh eggs with zero hormones, antibiotics or other artificial stuff in them. Really can see the difference in color and taste!

We just had our first the other day, 3 in fact. I agree they are the best. I had "fresh" eggs before several times growing up, but it has been a long time, I forgot how much better they are from store bought. And I had to laugh when I first cracked them open, I thought I was going to break the bowl as the shells are much thicker than store bought. Congrats on your eggs. A few of my friends don't see the big deal about it but eggs are the "payoff" for the time, energy and devotion one puts into raising chickens.

congrats on the eggs!

I love the rich color of the eggs and how they sit much higher in the pan. I will never go back to store bought eggs even if I no longer have chickens. Highly unlikely I love having chickens.
