So the other day one of my pigeons eggs began to hatch. It made a little hole the size of my pinky and then stopped. The next day still no more progress and the next. So I took the egg inside and peeled some away. The membrane inside had dried out and had imobilized the baby. I didnt get it all the way out and put the egg in a moist hot terrarium. I stayed up till 1 o clock trying to get the temp to stop fluxuating but it never really did. Goes from too hot to too cold a lot. The chick inside was doing lots of pushing and struggling. Eventually I took my roommates advise and just gave up on it. I went to bed while the temp dropped. the next morning it was still alive, but VERY cold. I warmed it back up and in a few hours the egg shell was off and detatched. It was still very strong and doing a lot of moving/pushing to get out of the egg and seemed strong.
last night the same thing happened. it got really really late, and i eventually gave up. it got down to 80.4 degrees. Its still alive but its very weak. I have Kaytee exact hand feeding formula, but I cant get the baby to eat any. how do i get food into it? its not doing the nuzzling thing baby piegons do to their parents when hungry, but it clicks its beak sometimes. I tryed a syringe and my fingers, putting the tip next to its beak and holding it. I feel like im going to break it, how do i hold it to feed it? im sorry this post is so garbled, im in a hurry. thanks!
