Thank you so much for all the welcomes! It was good to be reminded to put electrolites in the water until the temperature moderates again. It's going to be a very hot week in KY too. I will try to find a minute to post some pictures soon. It's a busy time with the garden right now and you can't put it off until later. :-/ I totally don't understand most of how to tell what is going on with the messages. I am used to Facebook but I will learn. Thanks again!
Haven't had time to check this site lately. One of my favorite hens is down with some type leg or hip injury. She is not egg bound as she is eating fine. She has no use of her left leg. We felt the whole area from backbone to toes and don't feel anything wrong and there is no visiable injury either. The toes are curled under most of the time. She is eating and drinking fine though. I found her this way one afternoon right outside the coop door. I have her in a cage with lots of treats and attention. She is a Barred Rock and her name is Sister Sue. She is absolutely adorable and so nice about this whole thing. She does move toward her food and water. But she sits a lot. We decided not to try to splint or anything and are hoping she heals up soon. It's just been 4 days so far. It's difficult to see her like this but it doesn't seem to bother her as much as it does me. ) The garden is turning on and it's now hot nad humid instead of just blazing hot and dry. WHEW!!! Summer 2012 has been different. Ready for some moderation in the weather! Fermenting pickles and freezing corn waiting on the beans and tomatoes to be ripe. Hope everyone else is doing well this summer too.
