Hello! My husband found a duck egg on our dock on March 31st and we decided to try and hatch it. We rigged up an incubator with a basket, a light and our meat thermometer. I google info so we kept the temp at 99.5, turned the egg several times a day and moistened it. Day 26 we lowered the temp slightly and stopped turning it.
Around day 27 or 28 we saw it move and heard some noises. Not much since then. No pipping. There are some small little dark dots in areas. Today is day 31. We candled it and you can see an air pocket at the large end and a small one at the small end. We tried the float test and that indicated it might not be alive, but we both thought we felt movement when we held the egg in our hands.
Do any of you have any advice or knowledge you can pass along to us? We are pretty sure it is a mallard duck since we have seen a mallard couple hanging out around the dock in the past.
