Hi...... I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am fairly new in raising chickens but I really have found a lot of joy in doing so. It is very peaceful to watch them and take care of them. They all have very different personalities and are fun to watch and interact with. This is a great place to come and ask questions and get help and share information and I am very thankful to now become a NEW member!!!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new flock, they are great little pets aren't they!

Yes they are I have had so much fun raising them so far. We purchased two golden comets a few weeks ago and slowly got them use to our other chickens and this weekend we finally added them into the same coop/run and three of our other chickens are really bulling them. I was able to come on here and get so many ideas and I can't wait until this evening when I can go home and try some of them out to help my little golden comet girls:)

Welcome to BYC!

So glad you are enjoying your flock! You need to mix new birds in very slowly over several weeks time. If you just throw them in, there will be chaos in the original flock. So keep the new birds in a cage or fenced off area but within the flock at all times. Everybody sees, nobody touches. Leave the new birds like this for about 3 weeks. Over this time, the pecking order will get somewhat worked out. So when mixing day comes, the aggressions should be minimal. You will still need to watch that day and the rest of that week, but it should go fairly smooth. Always intervene if it turns bloody.

Enjoy your flock and welcome to ours!

Thanks for the advice as well as the welcome! I did put them in a separate mobile coop right next to the master coop with the original flock but I only left them like this for two weeks so maybe I should put them back for a few more weeks. Thanks again!
